Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?

The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Nipun Mehta

Founder, ServiceSpace   |  

Nipun Mehta is the founder of ServiceSpace (formerly CharityFocus), an incubator of projects that works at the intersection of volunteerism, technology and gift-economy. What started as an experiment with four friends in the Silicon Valley has now grown to a global ecosystem of over 400,000 members that has delivered millions of dollars in service for free.

ServiceSpace community also runs projects like KindSpring.org, Karmatube.org, Awakin.org, DailyGood.org, MovedByLove.org and many more on a gift economy basis. Nipun has received many awards, including the Jefferson Award for Public Service, the President's Volunteer Service Award and Wavy Gravy's Humanitarian award. He is routinely invited to share his message of "giftivism" to wide ranging audiences, from youth in Ahmedabad to academics in London to international dignitaries at the United Nations.

Aditi Shrivastava

Head - Intellecap Impact Investment Network   |   LinkedIn

Aditi heads Intellecap Impact Investment Network (I3N or I-cube-N), which is India’s first angel network focused on impact enterprises. With the ambition to create a widespread culture of impact investing, Aditi engages with HNIs, family offices and funds, and brings them the most scalable and impactful young enterprises for mentoring and investment. She works closely with entrepreneurs as well, advising them on their investment approaches, business models and pitches.

Prior to joining Intellecap in 2011, Aditi was at Goldman Sachs in New York, specializing in quantitative equity research, trading and portfolio management. She also served as a board member on American India Foundation's young professional's board where she discovered a passion for the development space.

Aditi has a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton University, and is a CFA (USA) charter holder.

Kanchan Kumar

Kanchan Kumar has over 2 decades of experience in software product industry and 10+ years as an entrepreneur. He is the Founder and CEO of Fluous - leader in Enterprise HR Solution for large enterprises (see http://www.fluous.com) and Co-founder of Emportant - HR Software-as-a-Service for Small & Medium enterprises (http://www.emportant.com)

He is also the Executive Director at TiE Mumbai and an active mentor to start-ups in diverse domains. He is the man behind many new initiatives at TiE to support early stage startups, ranging from the Smashup events to the most recent TiEbootcamp.

Sachin Kelkar

Sachin Kelkar is the Head for Scale Software Program for Asia Pacific of the Intel Software and Services Group – Developer Relations Division. In this role , he focuses on developing the software solutions market across Asia Pacific by working with key software companies and software developers. Sachin drives business relationships and developer engagements with Independent Software Vendors ( ISVs) , Startups and software developers in the region across consumer and enterprise segments.

Sachin has worked with Intel for 9 years in the areas of developer engagement, software marketing and solutions engineering. He has worked on key projects of local language enabling , mobile application development and partner marketing.

Prior to Intel, Sachin has worked in Microsoft and Citrix and has an experience of 18 years in the software and telecom industry. Sachin earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Shivaji University in 1992 , followed by a Masters’ degree in Management from Mumbai University.

Neil Patel

Neil Patel is co-founder and CEO of Awaaz.De. Born and raised in California, his Phd dissertation on a mobile voice-based social platform for the digitally disconnected in India to access and share digital information became the idea behind Awaaz De which he cofounded with UC Berkeley Prof. Tapan Parikh. Awaaz De is now a revenue-generating company. Awaaz.De is a 2013 Action For India Growth Prize Winner, Sankalp - Artha 2013 Award winner, 2011 Tech Awards Laureate, and a 2011 Mashable.com Startups for Good finalist. Shital Shah

Born in Ahmedabad, raised in the US, and now back, Shital Shah is bringing together varied experiences and global exposure to her birth city's entrepreneurial culture. Immediately after university, Shital worked in Gujarat for a year as an Indicorps Fellow and has since worked in different capacities with organizations like the United Nations, Oxfam, the World Bank, and Acumen Fund. She now serves as a global strategy consultant with Enclude, focused on mobile money and social enterprise. Enclude is an advisory firm dedicated to building an inclusive and prosperous global economy. Shweta Sharma

Shweta Sharma moved from the states to India about a year and a half ago to start Karmany, a platform aimed at driving human capital and awareness to the social enterprise sector. With an educational background in Finance & Accounting and one folded startup under her belt, she also has over 7 years of corporate experience managing teams of 100+ at a US-based Fortune 10 Company, AT&T. In 2008, she also co-founded an educational NGO, Vidya Grants, based out of New Delhi, India, supporting assessment-based scholarships for children at the high school level hoping to drive vital change in the educational ecosystem. Shweta has been an active member of the Chicago/Silicon Valley startup ecosystem spearheading many events to bring together investors and entrepreneurs, and she serves as an advisor to many startups based in the US. An active volunteer for an Ahmedabad-based NGO, Manav Sadhna, Shweta loves her new home in Bangalore. She is also is an avid learner of a Kashmiri instrument, Santoor, and a certified aerobics instructor.
